Business Challenge:

Sevierville, Tennessee is home to the Little Pigeon Forge River, formed by the East Fork and Middle Fork, both of which flow down from high atop the Great Smoky Mountains. Sevierville has a rich Native American history, as the Native Americans first settled among the River and Forks-of-the-River hundreds of years ago. Due to its unique location, Sevierville acts as a connection between Knoxville in the north and several Appalachian towns in the south. Sevierville is also located approximately 10 miles south of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

A proposed commercial development of a Wal-Mart in Sevierville, Tennessee was met with several complex challenges as the proposed development site sat on a portion of wetlands as well as a stream that drained into the Little Pigeon Forge River.

EGIS’s Response to its Client’s Needs:

In order to have environmentally sound development on the site, permitting from the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) needed to be obtained and stream & wetland relocation services were necessary in order to maintain the environmental integrity of the site.

EGIS coordinated with the TDEC and Wal-Mart to successfully re-route and relocate over 700 ft. of stream as well as create a segment of new stream.  EGIS performed wetland relocation services and used materials from construction to form in-stream habitats and enhancements to the existing natural features.

EGIS utilized the most eco-sensitive methods possible during construction and was able to maintain the environmental sensitivities of the site, pleasing Wal-Mart, the TDEC and the land owners.

EGIS performed monitoring services of the site for 5 years after the project was completed.
